To Touch or Not to Touch, That’s the Question!

Do you know the oil from your skin is transferred to the stone every time you touch the diamonds? This builds up a film on the stone over time, which makes it look dirty. So, please don't touch it now and then.

Give Your Diamond Jewelry Regular Cleaning

A diamond sparkles because of the way light passes through it. But oil, sweat, and dirt will prevent light from passing through. Thus, Diamond Jewelry needs regular cleaning. Everything you need is hot water, a soft toothbrush and a soft soap. Do not use toothpaste to clean diamonds. Soak your diamonds in soapy water for a couple of minutes, and clean them gently with a soft toothbrush. Do not clean the diamonds with any chemicals. This can erode or even dissolve the metal prongs.

Store Them Carefully

When diamond rubs against another diamond, the gemstones can scratch each other. So, it is in your best interests to individually store each piece of jewelry and not to allow them to rub against each other. It is a good decision to invest with all your diamond jewelry in a fabric-lined jewelry case with different compartments.

Diamond Jewelry Need Periodic Inspection

With diamonds, you need to look after not just the stones but also the metal holdings that keep diamonds in place. If the metal looks odd and the metal holding the diamonds is not perfect, then it's time to take the jewelry to a jeweler.

Rings.

Rings are the most widely worn items of jewelry, and many have gone beyond ornamental value. Engagement Rings / Wedding Rings

An engagement ring is given to a woman and wears this ring which signifies her commitment to marriage. A wedding ring is presented in a marriage ceremony to signify marital commitment. Initially worn only by the woman, wearing such a ring is normal now for both spouses. The wedding ring is usually worn on the third finger on the left hand and can be made from gold, white gold, silver or other metals such as platinum. Men’s wedding rings tend to be larger and weigh more than women’s wedding rings. Also consider engravings or inscriptions on your wedding rings. These can be simple engravings such as your names or the wedding date, or a personal message for you to cherish.

Eternity Rings

This special ring is forever reserved for everlasting love, for eternity. A circle of diamonds all over the ring 's outer band clearly distinguishes the eternity ring. A half-eternity ring has diamonds covering half of the outer band –these are more readily available and are common gifts amongst close friends and family. Eternity rings can be worn on any finger but can be found mainly on the third finger of the left hand.

Three Stone Rings

Three stone rings typically have some sort of meaning behind them. They usually represent a trinity or trilogy of three things. The popular examples of this are: (1) The past, present and future of a relationship (2) The trinity of friendship, love and fidelity.
Although it can be special to attach this type of meaning to a ring, it does not have to mean those sets of things. It could mean anything the ring giver attaches to it. Every couple is different and holds different things close to their hearts. What's most important is what the rings symbolize to you.

Couple Rings

Whilst love is a universal emotion, no two relationships are ever the same. So, when it comes to expressing your commitment to that special someone, consider doing it in a way that is as unique as the bond you both share. A way to do this is with couple rings. Diverse in symbolism, couple rings are worn to show your commitment to one another, however their significance often varies from couple to couple. Ultimately though, even if you don’t plan to get married, couple rings are a statement of equality within a relationship, representing your love and devotion to one another.

Earrings.

Stud Earrings

The main characteristic of stud earrings is the appearance of floating on the ear or earlobe without a visible point of connection. Studs commonly come in the form of solitaire diamonds. Studs usually have a stem which is pushed through the piercing in the ear. Studs are held in place by removable backings. Some studs are threaded and have a screw type of backing to secure them, while some are secured with a push-on clip.

Hoop Earrings

Hoop earrings are circular or semi-circular in design. Hoop earrings generally come in the form of a hoop of metal that can be opened to pass through the ear piercing. They are often constructed of metal tubing, with a thin wire attachment penetrating the ear.

Pendants.

The pendants are among the oldest types of body ornaments known. Stone, shell, pottery, and more perishable materials were used. Pendants were commonly worn by ancient Egyptians. The word pendant derives from the Latin word pendere and the Old French word pendr, both translated as "hanging down." It comes in the form of a loose-hanging piece of jewelry, generally attached by a small loop to a necklace, which may be known as a "pendant necklace". The degree to which a pendant 's design can be integrated in an overall necklace makes it not always appropriate to view them as separate objects.

Bracelets & Bangles.

A bracelet is a jewelry item worn around the wrist. When a bracelet is a single, inflexible loop it is sometimes referred to as a bangle.

A bracelet/bangle is the easiest piece of jewelry to wear – it needs no piercings and adds panache and glamour to any outfit. Whatever your style is, there are bracelets/bangles out there to match it that will fit you, whatever size wrist you may have.

When choosing a bracelet/bangle, keep in mind your wrist size. The standard women's bracelet length is 7 inches. Women's bangles are 7 inches in length with a 2.5-inch diameter. Longer and shorter bracelets are also available. A bracelet that fits well will drape around the wrist without slipping onto the hand or getting in the way.

Bangles are traditionally rigid bracelets, originating from the Indian subcontinent. They are traditional ornaments worn mostly by women. It is common to see a new bride wearing bangles at her wedding, they symbolize auspiciousness and sanctity of marriage. Bangles also have a very traditional value in Hinduism as it is considered inauspicious for a married woman to be bare armed.

Precious Metals.

Gold

The word "Gold" originates from the old English word "geolu" meaning yellow. Gold attracted cultures all over the world right from the very beginning. It has been treasured as being the object of beauty and desire. It has always played an significant role in mythology due to its golden color and is considered a valued possession to date Since the beginning of time Gold has become one of the most coveted substances of mankind. The stories and myths surrounding gold are legendary, and only the wealthiest were allowed to wear it for many ancient civilisations.

Today, however, the glamor and sophistication of gold are much more egalitarian though being as appealing as ever.

A natural enduring element found in a distinct yellow colour, gold is resistant to rust, tarnish and corrosion. This is also the most malleable of all precious metals although it is very solid.

Purity

Pure gold is known as 24K gold, but most jewelry is made from either 18K gold, 14K gold or 10K gold. This is because pure gold is too soft for everyday wear.

Karatage, denoted by a number followed by "k" indicates the purity, or how much gold there is in the metal in a piece of jewelry.

The following shows the Karatage preferred for jewelry:

• 24 karat Gold equals 100% pure Gold -too soft for jewelry
• 22 karat Gold equals 91.7% Gold - still too soft for jewelry, but popular in certain parts of the world.
• 18k Gold equals 75% Gold - very popular for higher end jewelry, good balance of strength and value
• 14 karat Gold equals 58.3% Gold - extremely popular for jewelry. Good balance of durability and value.
• 12 karat Gold equals 50% Gold - not used for jewelry
• 10 karat Gold equals 41.7% Gold - lowest Gold content that can be legally marked as Gold. Not acceptable for jewelry

Platinum

South Africa accounts for 80 per cent of platinum in the world. Called the "King of Metals", platinum is a very heavy and is very ductile. While being a soft metal, platinum is not easily scratched, it rarely tarnishes, and it is very solid and long lasting. This is the strongest precious metal used in jewelry, and has excellent corrosion resistance and chemical attack. Platinum is also the only precious metal that is pure up to 95 per cent used in fine jewelry.

Platinum is the rarest metal and platinum's subtle beauty and its tendency to not add colour of its own, enhances a diamond's natural brilliance and fire, making it an excellent metal for diamond jewelry settings.

Because of its purity, platinum is naturally hypoallergenic. The melting point of platinum is 1,768 °C.
